InspAIred by CalifornIA
Laurence de Valmy's new series, “InspAIred by CalifornIA”, blends photography, AI, painting and digital art to explore themes of influence and originality while raising intriguing questions about the nature of human creativity. Inspired by how David Hockney—celebrated for adopting innovative mediums like fax and iPad painting—might approach AI, de Valmy embarked on this exploration of technology as a creative tool.
Some artworks in the series are entirely her own, while others involve collaboration with AI. Yet, it is difficult to discern which pieces were created with AI, challenging perceptions of what constitutes human creativity. Each work begins with her photographs or sketches, inspired by Californian landscapes, some of them are combined with prompts fed into various AI tools. She then refines the generated image and translates it into final artworks. InspAired by CalifornIA not only presents visually striking, contemporary works but also highlights how AI is reshaping our understanding of creativity and establishing itself as a new tool in both everyday life and the realm of contemporary art.
