2022 Banksy the vandal 40x30in Laurence de Valmy.jpg

#storybehindtheart

Banksy’s Girl with Balloon is one of the most famous artistic motifs and this image has become Banksy’s calling card. Akin to Andy Warhol’s soup cans, and Damien Hirst’s spots, this motif has appeared throughout his oeuvre and onwards through global visual culture.

This post is sharing the first time Banksy painted it in 2002, on the South bank in London and is liked by Steve Lazarides, the art dealer of Banksy at the time. Banksy declared "Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place. Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better looking place"

Like Banksy, Robbie Williams was one of the most important figures in British culture in the 2000s and he became a collector.

On this painting, journalist, Nigel Wrench invites the artist for an interview which will take place on BBC Radio 4's in 2003.
