Banksy created Love is in the Air in 2002. It was first exhibited in Los Angeles in the 33 1/3 Gallery owned by Frank Sosa in the exhibition Existencilism : an Art exhibition of graffiti, lies and deviousness. It was a successful introduction into the artist’s work.
This image of a masked figure throwing a bouquet of flowers has since become one of his most recognizable icons. It is thought to symbolize the action needed to bring about change; as Banksy has remarked, “If you want to say something and have people listen then you have to wear a mask”.
Frank Sosa, the gallery owner and Steve Lazarides his art dealer at the time, make a comment to support his work.
