2019 Keith closing reception 14x11.jpeg

#storybehindtheart

On November 13, 1982 Keith Haring had the closing reception of his first NYC solo show at Tony Shafrazi, which was a turning point in his career.

Untitled was among the artworks exhibited and this innocent yet controversial image reflects the positive attitude of Haring who believed in humanity and the power of love. For this exhibition he collaborated with the graffiti artist LAII.

Andy Warhol that he had recently met, came to the closing party and referred to it positively in his diaries as “just like the sixties”. Keith Haring was very grateful of the support of Warhol and it was a push in his career.

1982 was also an important year for Keith friend, Jean Michel Basquiat. In his comment he’s supporting Haring about his success.
