#storybehindtheart
Goldfish appear in 9 paintings of Matisse. It is thought that he got inspired by his visit to Morocco where the local population population would day-dream, gazing into goldfish bowls. Roy Lichtenstein made this tribute to Matisse in 1972.
The Matisse POST is based on the quotes of Matisse and Picasso about art. The work was purchased by Sergei Shchukin, Russian patron of both artists and Matisse visited Moscow at the end of October 1911.
The Lichtenstein POST is based on the quote of Roy stating that he admires the artworks he appropriates and on the interviews of of Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselman in Art in America in 1975 in an article about the influence of Matisse.
