2019 Hans and emotions 14x11 L de Valmy.

#storybehindtheart

On February 14, 1947 Hans Hartung is given his first solo exhibition in Paris at the Galerie Lydia Conti. He meets with critics, collectors and artist such as Soulages or Rothko.

In this POST Hans Hartung shares the painting D1947-11 and declares “it is an emotional state that prompts me to draw, to create certain forms to try to (…) stimulate a similar emotion in the observer.”

The comment by Mark Rothko is based on his quote “I'm not an abstractionist. I'm not interested in the relationship of color or form or anything else. I'm interested only in expressing basic human emotions: tragedy, ecstasy, doom, and so on.”

That same year, French director Alain Resnais will make a short film about Hartung, in his series of film of artists in their studios.
